I think this movie was a good example of what different types of literacy is. These kids were terrible students with terrible grades and test scores. When their teacher started getting them to write about their own lives, well that was when things started to flourish. Writing doesn't have to be purely academic. In this case it was more of a creative piece or narrative about their lives. Each students journal was compiled into a book, which at one point hit the best sellers list. I think we can all agree that books play a role in literacy and that's why I think the movie "Freedom Writers" exemplifies literacy.
